Abstract: The transition from a mobile-bed free-surface debris flow to a fixed-bed one (and vice-versa) commonly occurs at a sharp interface across which the relevant system of equations changes abruptly. This leads to the possibility of defining a new Riemann Problem (RP) called Composite Riemann Problem (CRP), where not only the initial constant values of the variables change from left to right, but also the relevant system of equations. Here we present a strategy for solving the CRP problem both from a theoretical and from a numerical point of view.
