Abstract: The underlying philosophy of the presented research is the view that retrofitting SuD S site controls in industrial areas will help achieve water management objectives. To explore this, the Houston Industrial Estate in Scotland was developed as a case study. Based on existing development and catchment characteristics, retrofitting of potential site controls is investigated to complement an existing end-of-pipe system. Building on the resultant analysis, the proposed paper will focus on the holistic modelling of potential Su DS benefits which will comprising a) SuD S treatment train water quality and hydrological performance assessment using MUSIC 3. 01 (Wong et al., 2006); b) whole life cost comparisons; and, c) land take optimisation using the hydrological and water quality modelling results. The paper demonstrates that significant special water quality and hydrological benefits can be achieved by objectively optimizing the SuD S treatment train. These benefits can be used to compensate for the relatively poor performance of the existing regional control.
