Abstract: In the cleft between state-of-the-art science and practical use of complex numerical models in everyday life a great deal of knowledge is lost. Often hydraulic problems are faced with out-dated know-how, while adequate tools have existed for years and science has already closed this topic without realizing its shortcomings in terms of practical implementation. The intention of this paper is to present certain aspects demonstrating the above-mentioned problem. It will highlight the need for a link connecting scientists and practitioners, which in case of numerical modelling is often the software company.
