Water Temperature Effects of Benthic Invertebrates in the Natori River Basin

Abstract: We conducted the quantitative samplings of benthic communities and measurements of water temperature in the headwater streams of the Natori River basin once a month in 2011 and 2012. As results, the Sorensen similarity index decreased significantly with the water temperature difference expanding (R2=0. 11, p<0. 001). The population densities of Plecoptera decreased significantly with the water temperature rising (R2=0. 12, p<0. 01). The average population density of Plecoptera shows significant negative correlations with maximum water temperatures (R2=0. 92, p<0. 001).
