Abstract: Accidents on a submerged crossing of a main pipe result in the huge repair expenses. Mathematical modelling of the emergencies helps to make the correct forecast at the fracture, to comprehend the process dynamics, to locate the accidents site and the bulk of the escaped fluid that is necessary to estimate the possible economical and ecological damages. Two typical scenarios of emergency situations are considered in the paper. The mathematical formulation of problem is given. The unsteady flows in pipes are described with the help of well-known equation of water hammer. The equations describing the system nodes operation will serve as the boundary conditions for the water hammer equations. The calculation technique based on the method of characteristics is suggested. The computations for the underwater pipelines of water supply crossing the Ob River within Novosibirsk city are performed. The results of computations are given and discussed.
