Abstract: Experiments were conducted to investigate the local scour at impermeable spur dike extending into the channel at right angle. In this paper, the effects of bed material size and flow depth on scour depth in clear water conditions were studied. The scour depth at spur dikes was correlated to the densimetric Froude number, the ratio of flow depth to length of spur dike and the ratio of sediment size to length of spur dike. Variations of bed topography were studied based on scour mechanism and eddies formation around spur dike.
