Abstract: A field monitoring activity to evaluate the flow discharge through indirect method of measurements is presented. To this aim, a reach of the Vezza river located in the mountain part of the basin of the Versilia river in Tuscany (Italy) was equipped with pressure transducers, in order to obtain simultaneous measurements of the water depth in two cross sections. Field measurements were employed to estimate the flow discharge by means of the slope-area method in the form proposed by McCuen (1998). The accuracy associated to the latter method is studied by modelling the propagation of flood wave with various return periods with an 1-D unsteady numerical model. Results suggest the relative errors are within the 10% .
