Abstract: The purpose of this report to present and verify a prediction method developed to analyze the behavior of water temperature and turbidity in a pumped storage reservoir. The features of this method are: numerical method for an incompressible flow with density variation, (2) to calculate the (1) to analyze the density current by applying a fluid density stratification by using the k-ε turbulent model, and (3) to apply the method to a flow involving a free surface using the VOF method. The prediction method is applied to local measurements in the Shin-Takase pumped storage reservoir. The obtained numerical solutions of the water temperature and turbidity distributions agree well with the measurement results.
