Flow and Bed Evolution in a Restored Embayment

Abstract: Field measurements and laboratory experiments were carried out in order to study flow structure and bed evolution in a restored embayment in the Yodo River. Detailed velocity and bed shape measurements were performed for several times including flooding events. Bed shape change as well as bed material renewal by a severe flood were of interests. How such a dynamic mechanism maintains habitats for riverine creatures in and around the embayments was also studied. The results shown here will indicate one of river restoration techniques by means of geometry change, especially the importance of giving variety on river shore line both longitudinally and vertically.
