Abstract: In this article an overview is given of methods available in literature to estimate the loss of life caused by floods. The methods are described and applied to a case study to study their applicability for flood hazard determination in the Netherlands. Besides, a framework for the further research on loss of life modelling in the Netherlands is presented.
