Abstract: In the present paper, the wave absorbing performance of the caisson breakwater with a fully submerged internal horizontal porous plate has been investigated numerically and experimentally. The submerged porous plate is clamped at the internal vertical wall of the caisson, which are horizontally placed or slightly inclined. The hydrodynamic interaction of incident waves with the rigid porous plate was formulated in the context of linear wave-body interaction theory and Darcy’s law. The accuracy and convergence of the developed numerical codes were cross-checked based on the energy-conservation formula for a limiting case, and the comparison with the experiment in a two-dimensional wave tank. It is found that the caisson breakwater with a internal and slightly inclined porous plates can have high performances in reducing the reflected wave amplitudes against the incident waves over a wide range of wave frequency.
