Abstract: To improve accuracy of tidal prediction in estuaries and coastal seas, a method for harmonic analysis and prediction of tides with optimum tidal components was established, and the prediction base on average harmonic constants of years was investigated. Being inspected with the measurements, the predictions based on optimum tidal components are more accurate than that based on the normal fixed tidal components groups. Compared to the predictions based on harmonic constants of a year, the tidal predictions based on average harmonic constants of years are better.
