Abstract: Marine Sewage disposal through outfalls is an efficient and economic measurement of wastewater disposal in coastal cities. The efficiency of sea outfalls affected the quality of coastal water to a large degree. Saline intrusion into long sea outfalls that occurred under low discharge will decrease the efficiency of disposal and even result in partial blockage of the system. In order to avoid it’s damage, it’s vital to investigate the flow mechanisms of intrusion and purging. In this paper, three-dimensional model for saline intrusion and purging in sea outfalls was developed. The flow was modeled in three dimensions under turbulent conditions with k-ε turbulence model and the interacting of two fluids was modeled with species model and VOF model. The numerical results provided quantitative evidence of the fundamental flow mechanisms that took place during saline intrusion and purging. The variations of discharges, velocities and densities in outfalls including the main pipe and risers were provided in detail.
