Abstract: The paper presents one and two-dimensional mathematical models for simulation of sedimentation and flushing in shallow reservoirs. The models are adaptations of the well proven existing river morphological models MIKE 11 and MIKE 21C. The models have been applied to the Welbedacht Reservoir in South Africa for simulation of three years of sediment deposition. Sediment flushing during a flood was also simulated and compared favourably with data obtained during a 1991 flushing event. A flushing scenario with modified lower outlets was also investigated which indicated a significant improvement in the flushing efficiency.
