Abstract: This paper presents a method to estimate reservoir sedimentation, a two-dimensional diffusion convection model (hereafter called as 2-D Diffusion Convection Model) and its application. The reservoir was constructed in the lower reaches of a river. The river sediment inflow is calculated by empirical equations established by using sediment discharge data observed at the inlet of the reservoir and small rivers flowed into the reservoir directly. 20 cross-sections at different places of the reservoir are selected to measure the thickness at each cross section of deposits four times to estimate the accuracy of the model. Comparing the thickness of deposits calculated by the 2-D Diffusion-Convection Model with observed data, the differences are less than±10cm and the result is good and applicable.
