Abstract: In this paper, the result of hydraulic model tests of rock plug blasting and of the hydraulic ballast sluicing in the tunnel with a diameter of 8m in the Fenhe reservoir and the comparison between experiment results with the prototype observation results are introduced. It is concluded that it is feasible carrying out rock plug blasting even if there is thick silt deposits in front of the sluicing tunnel like the Fenhe reservoir. Furthermore, the efficiency of ballast sluicing under the condition of thick silt deposits is still better than that under the condition of no thick silt deposits in a reservoir.
