Abstract: The Parker-Klingeman model is an excellent tool for predicting bedload transport in gravel bed streams. The model is characterized with two parameters including: (1) τ r50 *, a reference dimensionless critical shear for the incipient conditions at which the median diameter of bed material moves, and (2) PEXP, an exponent relating the shear value required to move any other size present in the bed material to τ r50 *. This paper demonstrates that those two parameters vary with discharge and should be site calibrated, as opposed to the fixed values suggested by Parker and Klingeman (1982).
