Abstract: To simulate local scour process around bridge pier, it is essential to predict the turbulence flow accurately, which requires predicting the separation point and stagnation point of separated turbulence flows. The nonlinearκ-εmodel with high order terms developed by the author was used to improve the prediction of such kinds of turbulence flow. The general bed load transport equation developed by the author was employed to take into account the lag effect in local scour simulation. Due to very strong vortex activity near the bridge in the turbulent flow, the special characteristics of turbulent flow pattern in local scour were taken into account by modifying the effective bed shear stress using a dimensionless bedshear parameter. The Ferdous experimental results were used to verify the 3D numerical model of local scour. Good agreement between calculated and measured results has been achieved in this study.
