Abstract: The wavelet transformation is applied to analyze 1950-2002 runoff-sediment transport time series at Lijin hydrologic station of Yellow River on this paper. The series is decomposed into high and low-frequency components, which are used to obtain runoff-sediment changing trend. It is shown that the water-sediment discharge of Yellow river has a obvious descending trend. It can be branched out into three phases by 1968,1984,2000, meanwhile, the water discharge and sediment discharge have same changing periods of 2-4 y, 8 years and 16 years. The decreasing of water-sediment discharge in Yellow River is not only due to climate but also human activities, especially water diversion along the Yellow river.
