Abstract: Aimed at the prominent characteristics of high concentration of suspended sediment of the Yellow River and its great impact on the concentration of COD Mn in th water, asimulation experiment method was adopted to investigate the impact of sediment existence on the COD Mn and to reveal the relationship between the concentrations of COD Mn in the turbid water, the clear water and the concentration of suspended sediment. On the basis of the conservation of mass, an empirical model of COD Mn decay was established, taking into full account the impact of sediment particles. Steady state analytical solution was used to find the solution of the governing equation of the model. Field observation data and lab experimental result were used in the form of an optimal combination of data, to calibrate the model parameters. Field monitoring data was used to test the parameters and the model. The result shows that the model structure is rational, the values of parameters are reliable, the precision of the model is satisfying.
