Abstract: In this paper, two examples of river restoration in Taichung City are presented and analyzed. The first example is the Lichuan River located in the city center, the objectives were to increase willingness of the public to embrace the river and to achieve flood control. The second example is Shishuike River, which is outside of the city center and home to the Moltrecht’s minnow (Aphyocypris moltrechti), a species exclusive to Taiwan. The project achieved the dual goals of safety for residents and ecological conservation.
