Abstract: During the period of May to September spill water in the Stornorrfors dry reach together with a fish ladder are used to bypass the Stornorrfors Hydro power plant (Sweden’s largest) for fish migration purposes. The fish ladder is working well at spill flow rates up to 50 m3/s through the B-spillway, i. e. the attraction water from the fish ladder and a parallel mini-turbine (1 m3/s and 20 m3/s respectively) is sufficient for the fish to find its way to the entrance of the fish ladder. At medium spill flow rates (up to 400 m3/s) through the B-spillway, the fish ladder attraction water is negatively affected and the fish cannot find the entrance to the fish ladder. A model test is performed and a reconstruction of the B-spillway is suggested and tested for an effectivization of the fish ladder so that it can work well up to 400 m3/s spill flow rate through the B-spillway.
