Abstract: From the beginning of 2000s, there have been drastic increases of riparian vegetation area in the river channel. The change of flow regime by the transverse structures such as dams and weirs causes riparian vegetation growing with water level decrease. However, the area of riparian vegetation has been increased all over the nation in natural rivers and small streams even without any crossing structures. Furthermore, the riparian vegetation development and forestation in river channel are also critical issues for river maintenance in Republic of Korea.
