Abstract: Efficient ice management in the ice covered seas and internal basins require the possession of probably more complete information about ice conditions, and physical-mechanical properties of an ice cover. It is real to obtain such information only with usage of remote optical and radiophysical tools of observation. The information received by means of them should be converted to set of information about thickness, internal structure and strength, and about other characteristics of ice fields. It is possible to establish interrelation between optical and radiophysical properties of ice, on the one hand, and his physical-mechanical characteristics, with other, only by systematic laboratory experiments. In the paper, the concept of the laboratory device intended to obtain mentioned information presented. One of tasks of this presentation is discussion of main units of the device and the methodology of researches with specialists and perfecting of the design based on received notes and advices. One of main objectives of given device will involve undergraduate and graduate students in research works. Therefore, design of device provides for investigations of rich range of various properties of freshwater and saline ice.
