Abstract: An improved ice load measuring panel has been developed and deployed on the Molikpaq at its location offshore Sakhalin. The panel design is 1 m wide by 2 m highwith a total load capacity of 12 MN or an average of 6 MPa over its whole surface. The panel is able to measure the total load acting on its 2 m surface, regardless of thedistribution of the loading. The panel has good dynamic response characteristics, being able to respond to load changes of 0.4 MN in a time interval of 0.05 s. Eighteen panels were placed on the Molikpaq in the summer of 1998. Four winters of measurements have demonstrated that the design was successful and reliable results were obtained. Sample results are presented and recommendations for improvements indicated.
