Abstract: After decades of exploitation many reservoirs reach their design lifespan and suffer from sedimentation. To reduce the risk of high costs and environmental impact it is desirable to model the sediment transfer measures in advance. A specific problem of reservoirs is the wide gradation curve of the accumulated sediments. In case of graded sediment transport the transport capacity is calculated with a correction factor for the dimensionless Shields stress for each fraction. This factor becomes strongly grain size dependent. Here it is proposed to change the actual shear stresses. The new approach for graded sediment transport is introduced and discussed by modelling the experiment of Gunter.
