Abstract: In the present paper the effect of a vegetation patch on turbulent open channel flow is studied. The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are solved in conjunction with a modified Reynolds stress model (RSM), based on the model of Ayotte et al. (1999) and a k-ε model of Foudhil et al. (2005) for the modeling of turbulence and drag due to vegetation. Computed results are compared against experimental measurements of Bouma et al. (2007).
