Abstract: Recently, Korea actively goes forward with river improvement, irrigation, and environment-friendly river maintenance, the so-called ‘Close-to-Nature’. The problem is that the habitable conditions of the living beings inhabiting the relevant rivers, whose environmental characteristics are remarkably different from each other, are not fully considered and another regimental man-made river is formed because construction technique is restrictively used and, what is more, the habitats of living beings has been frequently disturbed due to customary river maintenance. This study, the types of the habitats of the living beings inhabiting Gapcheon Stream in Daejeon Korea were classified into 10, and physical, chemical and ecological characteristics of each habitat were analyzed. In addition, the ecological relativity between the living beings adapted to each habitat was researched.
