Abstract: The interaction between tsunami waves and coastal structures has recently gained significant interest. A laboratory investigation of the impact of tsunami waves on the front face of a coastal structure is reported. The forces induced on a 1:16.67 scale model of a coastal building were measured. The maximum force in the wave direction was equivalent to about 235% of the hydrostatic force. Wave celerity, wave profile and wave run-up were also recorded.
