Abstract: Since the gradual breaching process in a blocked dam-break has been rarely discussed in previous papers, several dam-break experiments were designed to study the effect of the factors, coefficient of non-uniformity and the angle of the inner slope, on the process of dam break. During the development of a breach, four stages were observed and described in here. The flow erosion was the most intense stage. The results indicate that for a given coefficient of non-uniformity, with increasing angle of the inner slope, the peak discharge caused by the dam-break increases; for a given inner slope, with increasing coefficient of non-uniformity, the peak discharge first increases, then comes to the maximum, and finally decreases.
