Abstract: To investigate the effect of a permeable screen on a turbidity current, physical experiments were carried out and a numerical model, based on the flow solver CFX-4.4, was developed. Two types of geotextiles for the screen were tested with different porosities and mesh openings. The modelling of the screen was done as a thin porous region with a resistance force according to head loss relationships. The numerical simulations were in good agreement with the physical experiments performed in the 7.1 m long laboratory flume.
