Abstract: Winter operations of hydropower generating stations can be significantly affected by the possibility of ice jam formations in rivers. A numerical model for dynamic river ice transport is used to study the ice jamming processes in the upper Niagara River. This study is intended as an example to demonstrate the use of the model to analyze ice jamming processes for hydropower project.
