Abstract: The flows over stepped channels are classified into three types: skimming flow, nappe flow, and transition flow. The hydraulic condition for the formation of each type is determined. Also, each flow type is characterized by the pressure at the step corner. For the skimming flow, characteristics of an eddy near the step corner are clarified from the velocity distribution on the step.
