Abstract: The 2-D mathematical models for river flows in a channel with submerged groins have been developed in the generalized curvilinear coordinate sys-tem to investigate the flow behavior in a complicated channel. The effect of a groin was described as a counter force of the fluid force acting on a submerged groin. They were applied to the flood flows in the Yodo River and the velocity distributions were successfully compared with those ob-served by using PIV of the video images of flows.
