Abstract: The new velocity measurement method of river surface flow using video-taped images is presented. Surface patterns of flood-flow naturally visualized by drifting wood, foam and those created by boil vortices are traced by using an image processing technique, enabling a two-dimensional velocity measurement. The method to transform oblique-angled images to normal ones as well as its accuracy is discussed in detail.
