Numerical and Image Analyses of Turbulent Flow in Open Channel Trench

Abstract: Turbulent flow structures in a trench section of an open channel flow are examined by a numerical analysis based on the three dimensional large eddy simulation and by a two dimensional image analysis. Mean and turbulence structures and time dependent characteristics of turbulent shear flows in a longitudinal vertical section are compared. Both methods revealed the average and space-time structures of the flow satisfactorily.
