Abstract: The experiments of oil sorption capacity of oil absorbent mats of Bohai crude oils were performed under controlled environment temperatures in high- and low-temperature test chambers. The tests include three crude oils with different solidification points and four different absorbent mats used in Bohai Oil Industries. The physical oil absorption processes were determined based on twelve test cases with combined conditions of oils and mats. Mathematical descriptions are obtained and formulated. The coefficients of these fitted curves are determined by statistical methods. For the application purpose, only Suizhong crude oil can be recovered in winter by the oil absorbent mats. All oil absorbent mats cannot reach their maximum oil sorption capacity even in summer or autumn. The solidification point of a crude oil and the type of oil absorbent mat governs the adhering and permeating oil absorption process and amount. Oil sorption capacity of the MXU1000 series mats is better than the wool oil absorbent mat.
