Abstract: A river ice model capable of simulating ice processes in a long, shallow river is used to analyze flow and ice conditions in the lower Yellow River. The model is calibrated using observed data. A scenario analysis of the effect or the Xiaolangdi Reservoir operation on the ice condition in the river is presented. A reservoir operation strategy is suggested based on the scenario analysis.
