Abstract: A two-dimensional simulation model for ice cover formation is developed for a reach of the upper St. Lawrence River between Cardinal and Iroquois Dam. The simulated results are compared with field observations. Further refinements by including the undercover accumulation of frazil suspensions and the effect of the shape of the leading edge are discussed.
