Abstract: In this paper, results of recent studies on flow and ice conditions in the Ogden Island reach of the St. Lawrence River upstream of the Moses-Saunders Power Dam are reported. Aspects of the investigation which are discussed include: a) flow distributions around Ogden Island; b) field measurements of ice cover thickness and the formation of frazil ice hanging dams; c) heat budget analyses and frazil ice production in the study reach; and d) relationship between flow resistance and weather conditions.
