Abstract: The report considers the modelling of the most typical for ice dam in rivers of the U. S. S. R., which are formed during the destruction of ice covers and while ice reefing and ice push create an accumulation of ice on river banks and in river channels. Indicators of mechanical similarity are proposed that enable modelling of ice dams of this type. The main requirements for materials used for this type of modelling are formulated and an example of application of this material (ice substitute) is given. In particular, one of the initial problems of ice-dam studies, i. e. evaluation of the strength of ice in ice dams under natural conditions, is solved.
