Abstract: In this paper, we conducted flume experiments using model logs to investigate driftwood jam formation at bridge piers. Backwater rise was compared with the porous board tests to examine the blockage ratio of driftwood jam. Next, we tracked behavior of incoming log on floodplain to evaluate the convection velocity. The convection velocity was compared with floodplain flow velocity measured by PIV. Then, the drag force and collision force of log exerted on the model house on floodplain was measured using a force gauge. The measured data was compared with the wooden house demolitions criteria to evaluate flood damage to house around a bridge.
