Abstract: Buildings play a critical role in flood dynamics and must be carefully represented in numerical models. Accurate hydraulic simulations require fine mesh resolution along building edges to capture their influence effectively. In this study, we evaluate two mesh refinement strategies using the Toce test case: (1) uniform global mesh resolution and (2) building-specific local refinement. Our findings demonstrate that local mesh refinement significantly enhances result accuracy while preserving computational efficiency. These results highlight the need for advanced algorithms capable of automatically resampling large-scale building datasets in urban flood modeling.
