Abstract: The crucial role that plants play in terms of water quality, biodiversity and banks stability is now fully appreciated by river managers. At the same time, from an engineering perspective, vegetation elements also change the hydraulic regime of natural waterways, sometimes with undesirable effects. This has motivated extensive research efforts over the last years. The main objective of this work is to assess the effect of velocity and area distribution on drag coefficients predictions. Furthermore, a model recently suggested to evaluate the drag of flexible trees is tested.
