Abstract: Flood modeling in rural or semi-urban areas is of particular importance for prevention and development of efficient alert systems. Numerous computational software are available but the require parameters or data that are not easily determined or measured. The data assimilation framework has been reported to be of great interest for similar situation for weather forecasting or oceanography modeling The possible benefits of data assimilation for shallow water flows and particularly for flood mod is assessed in this study using the Dass Flow-Shallow software. A real case in the Red River system with complex topography presented. Different aspect data assimilation is covered from this case. The results obtained are quite promising for the development of a fully integrated data assimilation framework flood modeling.
