Abstract: In this study, discharge of drainage gates installed in the Saemangeum tidal barrier is investigated throughout the hydraulic experiments. To evaluate adequacy of the physical model, the results of experiments are compared to observed data. The average error between experimental results and measured data is 2.89%. When the difference of water level between in and outside of the tidal barrier is relatively large, strong jets are generated by piers of gates and hydraulic jump occurred downstream of the gates. It is found that discharge increases as tidal level outside of the barrier decreases when hydraulic jump don’t occur. However, discharge is constant regardless of the tidal level when hydraulic jump occurs. And discharge when all gates are opened is larger than twice of that when half of gates are opened.
