Abstract: Sedimentary processes is a widely researched area. The application of photogrammetry to this field has the potential to reveal new insights about these processes. Photogrammetry is useful as it automates the analysis process, allowing in-depth investigation into vast quantities of data which would otherwise be time consuming. Experiments have been conducted for the development of photogrammetry with the application to sediment transport research. Different sized, painted in different colours particles were used in combination with photogrammetry. An image analysis method was successfully developed to produce results regarding the quantification of surface grain size distributions over time, and for tracking the position and orientation of an individual particle over time.
