Abstract: The SPH numerical method has been recognized for a long time as a promising approach for modeling complex free-surface flows. However, until a few years it was still suffering from drawbacks which made its application difficult: 1) computational cost; 2) boundary treatment; 3) pressure treatment; 4) numerical instabilities. In order to circumvent these issues, we developed novel techniques, summarized here in a comprehensive way with validations. Realworld applications are presented: a vertical slot fish pass and a dam spillway on real bed topography.
