Design and Implementation of a 25 Ha Wetland: Borstakarr at Christinehof Castle, Scania, Sweden

Abstract: A 25 ha lot mainly used for forest production was converted to wetland. The steps from conception to executed project is described. This includes: Description of the site, its hydrology and characteristic soils, required studies of plant, fish and wildlife. Preparation of the area to be inundated, 25 ha, is described as well as choice of water levels, dams and outlet works. Two meandering streams were constructed. Design criteria are presented. Future expected maintenance and the intention to have the wetland be part of an eco-park open to the public is stated.
