Abstract: Many Arctic offshore structures are built in relatively shallow water. In this case the ice rubble forming in the ice-structure interaction process may ground, which affects the further ice loading process and the ice loads on the structure. Fairly little is known about the mechanics of ice loads in the case of grounded rubble. Here we present preliminary results from our simulation-based study on ice-structure interaction process in shallow water. In our simulations, we use 2D combined finite-discrete element method (FEM-DEM). In our paper we look into the effects of the water depth and the seabed slope on the ice loads.
